A lot of people don’t know this, but my original plan in life was to grow up and become a cartoonist. Not because I wanted to do that more than play music, but because I didn’t know if being a musician was a feasible way to make a living. Well, it seems to be working out, although every day brings with it a new challenge in that area.
But, for a time, I did plan on becoming a commercial artist as an adult. And although I’m very happy with the choice I made, I still enjoy drawing whenever I get the chance.
That’s how I came up with the idea of Drum Head Art. I figured it’d be a good way to use my side skills in art as a way to spread some of this God-given energy I have, and also to maybe keep a positive thought within reach in between Cowboy Mouth shows.
My art consists of hand-drawn collages mixed with some of the things I say onstage to produce – if not the sonic or musical experience of a CM show – most definitely the feel of a CM show. Each drumhead is easily displayable and will make a great conversation starter.
Every piece is drawn to order and I can usually get them out pretty quickly. Check out the ones I’ve done so far and see what you think!
